Local Design

Local Design deals with producing options of urban forms and travel networks at scales of a neighbourhood for testing its application to the case study areas. Examples of urban form include: 'pods' (single-use development branching off the distributor road network); open cells; closed cells; and linear development along transport corridors. Transport networks include grid and cul-de-sacs layouts.

Options will be tested by a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including levels of accessibility.

Examples of neighbourhood layouts

[a] A traditional suburb on a grid network with mixed-use development and high permeability for pedestrians and cyclists

[b] A contemporary single-use suburb with cul-de-sacs to avoid through traffic and distributor roads to facilitate car use
